Days 1 (June 22)/2: (June 23) SEA —>LHR—> OSL

Viewing the sunset as we climb up to the roof of Oslo’s Operagata.

Well here we are. Finally taking the trip that we were supposed to take in 2020. I have to admit that cancelling this trip in 2020 was not nearly as devastating as cancelling our annual Healdsburg trip. That said, once we got to the end of 2021, I almost pulled the trigger on planning this trip for 2022. Then a couple of COVID outbreaks happened and everyone in Europe freaked out, so I said…. Nah.

So it’s late June 2023 and we’re back on the move internationally. We’ve travelled domestically since getting vaxxed, but now I feel really energized to be visiting someplace new. And now we’re heading to a place I have wanted to visit for 20+ years.

Norway.

We didn’t have any issues getting to Heathrow on the initial flight over (Day 1 into 2). Unfortunately our flight from Heathrow to Oslo (Day 2) was delayed, so it just made a very long 19 hour travel duration even longer.

But hey - the Lufthansa lounge has all of the Bavarian pretzels you can eat and all of the beer you can drink (and of course, they had Beck’s beer, which neither Marc nor I drink, but glad to represent with our last name).

We finally land in Oslo and take the train to the center of town. Hotel is literally across the street. Huge win and very easy. Would recommend the train - cheap and 20 minutes to city center.

But given that sunsets this time of year in Oslo are at 11pm, we decided to go out for a walk to the waterfront (Oslofjord) and check out the sunset. We weren’t disappointed and it made up for a long journey.

This was taken at 1045pm in Oslo. Still more sunset to go! Behind is a very boisterous beer garden and the Edward Munch museum. Look forward to exploring more tomorrow.

Check back in as Marc and I resume our daily dispatches from the road.
